BANGOR – Dennis “Denny” F. Stubbs, 66, passed away Dec. 11, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1946, in Bangor, the eldest son of Francis and Vernice (Clement) Stubbs.
Denny led a full life, despite physical limitations as a result of contracting polio at a young age. He graduated with honors from Bangor High School and later Husson College, class of 1996. Denny’s passion was accounting and he volunteered his services to help local elderly with their taxes. Denny was also a fixture around town, and could be found everywhere from the race track to the Bangor Mall, raising money for the Maine Action Coalition for Disabled Persons, a group he helped form in 1983 with friend, Greg Martin. His positive attitude and can-do spirit meant that Denny was often contacted to counsel the newly-disabled at local hospitals. Denny lived courageously, with humor and optimism helping tackle the numerous obstacles life dealt him.
He is survived by his mother, Vernice of Corinth; brothers, James and wife, Eileen, of Brewer and Tom and wife, Audrey, of Corinth; several nieces and nephews, a great-niece; and many special friends, including Greg Martin, Kate and Jenny.
Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Pine Grove Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond St., Bangor.
