STANDISH – Donny Ray Jamison passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, surrounded by his loving family members at his home. Donny was born April 12, 1940, at home in Bridgewater, to Florence Anna (Fisher) Jamison and Ray Allen Jamison.
He grew up in Bridgewater and attended schools there, graduating from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1958. After graduation Donny moved to southern Maine to work for Telephone Service Co., Standish, where he worked as a lineman and later as a buried cable installer until 1972. In June 1972, he went to work for Contel in their Raymond office as an installer/repairman. He remained with Contel until the company was sold to GTE. Donny retired from GTE in 1992. Donny married Glenna Clifford, Aug. 30, 1963, and they have lived in Standish since that time. Although he worked as a telephone man for 34 years, Donny never got over being a potato farmer from Aroostook County. He grew potatoes on his farm in Standish for the past 40 years. Upon his retirement from the phone company, he and his family operated Jamison’s Farm Stand from 1992 until 2001. This was a part of his life that he especially enjoyed. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; any kind of fishing from wading through brooks in northern Maine to salmon fishing in Alaska. Donny really enjoyed traveling to many destinations in the U.S. and Canada, but his favorite thing was spending time at home with his family.
In addition his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence, as a young child. Survivors include his wife, Glenna; daughter, Lisa Pratt and husband, Steven, of Standish; daughter, Donna Floyd and husband, Jamie, of Standish; three grandchildren, Jessica Pratt, Cody Pratt and Holly Floyd, all of Standish; brother, Bob Jamison and wife, Judy, of Standish and Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Betty Kilbride and husband, Jim, of Florida; nephews, Barry Jamison, and Ray Jamison and wife, Debbie, and daughters, of Standish; and niece, Debbie Jamison of Standish; brother-in-law, Loren Clifford and wife ,Tracy, of Warner-Robins, Ga.; several cousins and very special friends; as well as his “special love,” his black lab, Ebony. The family thanks Dr. Roger Inhorn and the staff at Mercy Oncology, as well as Karen Hartman and the other members of Visiting Nurse Association Home Health Hospice staff for the wonderful, caring way they treated Donny and the family during our time of need.
