WATERVILLE, Maine — A Winslow man was apparently heated during an argument on Water Street Tuesday afternoon, as he struck another man with a propane tank before being sent to jail to cool off, according to police.
Waterville officers were sent to Water Street just after 1 p.m. after an off-duty Winslow officer drove by the scene in his personal vehicle, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.
After Waterville police Sgt. Dan Goss responded, he saw a pickup truck leaving the area and quickly stopped it, while Officer Steven Brame talked to witnesses on the scene, who said the pickup’s driver instigated the fight.
The driver, Bernard Robinson, 29, was allegedly holding a small, one-pound propane tank during the argument and struck another man on the head with it, according to Rumsey.
Rumsey said Robinson was the only one who brought out a weapon during the argument, which involved two or three other men, the deputy chief said.
Robinson was arrested and taken to Kennebec County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony, Rumsey said. He is being held without bail.
The man who was struck was treated and released at Inland Hospital.
Looks like its time to ban propane tanks!! Just proves all our points that bad people will do bad things no matter the weapon. They will always find something to use.
