HERMON, Maine — The name of a local man who suffered a serious head injury and broken bones Saturday night when he missed a turn and flipped his truck has been released.
Daniel Pearson of Hermon, whose age was not immediately available but who is believed to be in his mid-50s, was ejected from his Ford F-350 pickup truck at about 10 p.m. Saturday when he missed a turn on Fuller Road and rolled the vehicle repeatedly, Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy David Quinn said Monday.
“He missed a corner, drove through a field, drove through a ditch, snapped the [guy] wire off a pole and then hit a berm,” the deputy said Sunday. “After he hit that, his truck flipped end-over-end two or three times.”
Pearson suffered a severe head injury with several broken bones as a result of the crash, which destroyed the pickup truck, Quinn said.
He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The cause of the crash is still undetermined, Quinn said.
“I’m still investigating it,” he said Monday.

Mechanical failure or medical event are other possibilities, but, yes, excessive speed is very likely the cause of this crash.
