ROCKLAND, Maine — A 30-year-old Hope man will remain behind bars for the holidays after police say he led them on a high-speed chase through three communities.
Christopher Kimball was ordered held without bail Monday morning during a hearing in Rockland District Court. Kimball was charged with eight offenses — eluding an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, refusing to submit to arrest, criminal operating under the influence, criminal speeding, aggravated operating after his license was revoked, driving to endanger, and violating a condition of release.
Defense attorney Jeremy Pratt acknowledged during the Monday hearing that bail was a moot issue since there was a motion expected to be filed by the probation office to revoke Kimball’s earlier bail. Kimball had been on bail following his arrest in August for several offenses including operating after revocation and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
According to a police report filed in court concerning the latest charges, a Rockport police officer had tried to stop Kimball who was operating a motorcycle at a high rate of speed on Route 17 shortly after 11 p.m.
Saturday. The operator refused to stop and drove into Rockland where he led Rockland officers there on a chase, according to the police report.
During the chase, Kimball drove the wrong way on a one-way section of Main Street, failed to stop at stop signs, drove 60 miles per hour on the residential street of Talbot Avenue, and reached speeds of 90 miles per hour on Old County Road in both Rockland and Thomaston, police reported.
Eventually, police said Kimball tried to turn around his motorcycle on Broadway, a dead end road in Thomaston. As Kimball tried to turn around, a Rockland officer got out of his cruiser and tackled the motorcyclist.
Kimball resisted and there was a struggle before he was handcuffed, police reported.
A loaded .45-caliber Beretta handgun was found in a backpack that Kimball had, according to the report.
Kimball was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.

In Maine that means 9 years all suspended but 30 days. In places like Texas that’s 15 years and a day. Even in fruit-bat California that’s 5 years solid.
OK, we know that he appeared in District Court Monday morning and that Kimball was driving his motorcycle fast on Rte. 17 shortly after 11 pm. But when – Friday, Saturday, Sunday night?
That’s not too much to ask, is it BDN, the date when the chase occurred?
It says Saturday, but the ‘Saturday’ was moved to the beginning of the next paragraph.
I don’t think it was anywhere in the piece when I commented.
Odd that the Rockland officer that risked his life to tackle and bring down an armed perp gets no accolades.
So…if I am understanding this right, he was carrying a concealed weapon…. not a crime if it was ok for him to be carrying… so he must not have a license for it??? Say it isn’t so. Another criminal with a gun, I can’t imagine that, since it is againt the law! When will people understand that by banning them, the only ones that will have them is the criminals!!!
