MEDWAY AND HERSEY – Hartley Lawrence Grant Sr. went home to be with the Lord, Dec. 24, 2012, after a brief illness. Hartley was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Hersey, the son of Carl E. Grant and Hildred E. (McIntosh) Grant.
He was a U S Army veteran of the Korean War. Hartley enjoyed many different hobbies and was an avid reader. He enjoyed studying the Bible and could always start a lively conversation about one topic or another. He attended Lincoln Center Church of God for many years and enjoyed the friendships of all those who attended. Hartley spent his working years as a carpenter, along with his father and brother, Aldana. The Grant Boys built many homes in the Lincoln, East Millinocket and Millinocket area. He always took notice to the homes they built when he was out and about. Hartley will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his dear wife of 57 years, Earlene O. (White); a daughter, Elaine and husband, Rev. Gerald Craig, of Lincoln; and a son, Hartley Lawrence Grant Jr. “Mike” and wife, Edie, of Kingman; three grandchildren, David M. Craig and wife, Trisha, of Glenburn, Beverly Clark and husband, Ryan, of Unity and Melissa Oliver and husband, Ty, of Chester. Hartley had seven great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Aldana; sister, Helen; and grandson, Justin Craig.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Lincoln Center Church of God, with funeral services to be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev Gerald Craig officiating. Spring interment will be in Mount Chase Cemetery. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
