THE VILLAGES, FLA., AND BELGRADE – Odile H. Gagnon Williams RN, 83, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Belgrade. She was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Waterville, the third surviving daughter of Charles and Catherine (Cyr) Gagnon.
She attended St. Francis De Sales School and Mount Merici Academy graduating in 1947. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s General Hospital School of Nursing, Lewiston, in 1950. On Aug. 8, 1953, she married Melvin L. Williams at Ladd AFB Fairbanks, Alaska, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Odile was employed in the maternity ward and nursery at The Sisters Hospital in the 1950’s. She later worked at Seton and various nursing homes in the 1970’s and 1980’s. While at Pleasant Hill Nursing Facility, Fairfield, she taught a state certified nursing assistants program. In Weisbaden, Germany, she received her pin as a Red Cross nurse at the military hospital. She began oil painting at age 40 and researching genealogy were her hobbies. During her life, she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, PLEA (Pro Life Education Association), the Art League of Lady Lake, Genealogical Associate of Taconnet Chapter of ME and Genealogical Society of Lady Lake, Fla. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish, Waterville and St. Timothy’s, The Villages, Fla., with a special devotion to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Williams; two sons and two daughters: Guy “Tim” Williams and wife, Lisa, of Jericho, Vt., Susan Schug and husband, Eric, of California, Md., Nicole Williams of Belgrade, Terence Williams and wife, Susan, of Maryville, Tenn. She is also survived by two sisters, Eva Russell and Jean Esther Gagnon of Waterville; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the Healthreach Hospice staff, Care and Comfort staff, and Dr. Clifton Smith and his staff for their exceptional care, kindness and support given Odile and the Williams family.
Visitation hours will be 1-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Gallant Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Sacred Heart Church.
