ELLSWORTH, Maine — Police are looking for a missing Ellsworth man last seen on Christmas Eve.

Jonathan Spinney, 28, was last seen at an ex-girlfriend’s house on Ohio Street in Bangor, said Ellsworth Police Chief John DeLeo. Spinney is carrying a cell phone, but DeLeo said it had been disconnected.

Spinney has been living recently at the Sister Barbara Hance House in Ellsworth, a home for the long-term homeless. DeLeo said Spinney has a history of drug abuse.

Spinney was last known to drive a blue 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with a red and white pin stripe, sun roof and spoiler. The car’s license plate number is 4290TB. He is six feet, two inches and weighs about 180 pounds, with blond hair and hazel eyes, DeLeo said.

DeLeo said police consider Spinney to be in possible danger because of his history with drugs.

“The biggest concern people have for him right now is that drug use,” DeLeo said, though he declined to comment on the specific drug Spinney is known to use.

Anyone with information about Spinney’s whereabouts should contact the Ellsworth Police Department at 207-667-2168.

  1. “WABI: Bangor – An Ellsworth man who was reported missing was reportedly involved in a high speed chase Friday afternoon in Bangor.
Police say Jonathan Spinney, 28, was driving his mother’s car.
According to his mother, he was in a high speed chase with police on outer Broadway in Bangor Friday afternoon. Police tell us they called off the chase because it was getting too dangerous.
Spinney’s mother says her son ditched the car in the Capehart area of Bangor, and ran away. Police don’t know where he is.”

  2. do anyone of you have respect at all? that you run your mouth about MY brother? you think he wants this for him self? think again, YOU get an addiction and tell me you can control it! but thats right once you get an addiction you cant control it so if your gonna be disrespectful dont comment back! the only one here that wasnt disrespectful was country escapee and yes damn cemicals

    1. So sorry about your brother Michael. I hope they will find him safe and sound. Praying for him and for all of his family.

    2. Too often people think the worse first. It sounds like your brother is having problems. I think people are reacting to him ditching his car in Bangor and running. Maybe he wants to go in hiding…has he broken any laws? Addition is an ugly disease. It make people do things they wouldn’t do if they were clean. The best thing you can do for your brother is to be there for him and see he gets help if he needs it.

      1. You mean if he wants it, My son overdosed twice, he got help when he wanted it, not when I did. Enabling is not helping.

  3. People don’t forget that no matter what he is a son,a father, and a big brother. Please show some respect for the family at least during this hard time right now. Obviously you all see he had been missing before the choices were made today. Yes it is due to chemicals but he is an individual and human being still and he needs help. The family especially his mother and brother don’t need peoples to be disrespectful during this time too..

    1. I hope he is found safe and get the help for his addiction, he is a lucky man that he has people who care no matter what. I wish you well in locating him

  4. I am so sorry this young man has an addiction. They are hard to get under control and harder still to make good choices when in the throughs of one. I wish the best for this young man and his family.

  5. I hope he finds a safe place and gets under control. I’ve had family that have suffered with addictions. You all suffer. It’s hard to see it happen to a loved one, and you feel so powerless sometimes. I hope this guy can get his life turned around. Not an easy road.
