BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are investigating a stabbing on Elm Street early Saturday morning that left a man dead.
The victim’s name, age and hometown had yet to be released as of Sunday afternoon, pending the results of an autopsy being conducted by the Office of the State Medical Examiner, Bangor police Lt. Tim Reed said. The autopsy results were not available on Sunday.
“As far as I know, it’ll be sometime next week,” Reed said.
Police were called to 80 Elm St. about 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Saturday during an interview at the police station.
Officers found a man at the residence who was injured. The victim was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he died late Saturday morning, Edwards said.
The residence is a two-unit apartment building. Edwards said several people were present when the incident occurred.
As of Sunday, no one had been charged or arrested in connection with the incident.
Edwards said that the medical examiner will confirm the victim’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
According to Edwards, the person allegedly involved in the stabbing was another male who is believed to be a resident of 80 Elm St. He said investigators do not believe the man who died lived there.
Edwards declined Saturday to say whether investigators believe that the stabbing was a matter of self-defense.
“We’re looking at every possibility. That is a possibility. But again, we know who’s involved,” he said.
“Right now, nobody’s in custody in the case,” he added. “We’ll know a lot more after the autopsy. The autopsy will give us the cause and manner of death and we can go on that and decide if the Attorney General’s Office has to be involved not.
“Both those people knew each other. There was a relationship between the two and we’re still wading through all that. Interviews are still ongoing,” he said. “We have a pretty good understanding of what happened. Nobody’s going anywhere here, so we’re just going to wait for the medical examiner to give us some direction.”
The Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Evidence Response Team are investigating the incident.
Edwards also confirmed that there had been another altercation in the area before the stabbing took place.
“I do not know if they were related or not,” he said of the altercation.
As of late Saturday afternoon, it was unclear what led to the stabbing, Edwards said.
“The call just came in definitely as a stabbing so really there’s no indication of a fight or altercation or anything at all that had gone on. That will come up in the investigation,” he said.
“This incident was not a random act and there is no threat to the public,” he said.
Edwards urged anyone who heard or saw anything unusual in the Elm Street area early Saturday morning to call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. The department’s anonymous tip line can be reached by pressing extension 6.

OMG! Time to ban all knives.
americans do not need knives
or spoons.
Has anyone ever been spooned to death? Let’s not go off the deep end here!
actually…
Anything can be used as a weapon!! Look at all the killings in prisons…if there’s a will, there’s a way. Its not the weapon that is used, its the person that uses it that is the main problem……
. . . Ahem . . . There is an average of 8,500 intentional gunshot homicides in the US yearly. Check out the FBI website to see how many other weapon choices are used.
That is life, and I don’t care.. Freedom isn’t free. You people think that an unarmed population is utopia.. Without arms the people will not remain free.. Fact, You actually believe government is the answer to everything.. Politications would turn this country into a dictatorship in a minute if they knew the people couldn’t defend against it.. Don’t believe them don’t trust them.
Your pea-shooter won’t do squat in the event that happens.
Then you have no reason to fear our pea-shooters, do you!
What makes you think that I do?
Haven’t had much trust in all that since ‘they’ told me it was just dandy to travel several thousand miles to kill unarmed folks… “Why, because Uncle Sam says so, son!”
Umm, the U.S. Military has apache flir attack helos, f-16 among other jets, tanks, apcs, ect ect ect. What are you implying a few handguns and assault rifles (both small arms vs like shells and bombs, I mean cmon) going to stop the govt from doing anyway? Be realistic here, they are not going to “turn into a dictatorship”, but dont get me wrong, I’m no pro-gun banner, just saying its silly to think your stopping them from doing something they would want to with relatively small arms.
Liveleak syria videos going on daily, you wanna see a “dictatorship”, otherwise your exaggerating greatly.
That is correct, however that is why we need these guns to at least have a dam fighting chance, instead of being a sitting duck, I bet the people of Germany did not think their military would turn on the people but look what happened, and today we are sending guns, ammo and ect… to Syria, who is going to send guns here if someone can turn the military against the people. No one will.
My point being, there is no resistance with small arms, you do not have a “fighting chance” with an assault rifle or pistol, both are pea shooters compared to cannons shells, guided jdams, mortar artillery, tank shells, apc rounds, SMAWS, ect ect ect. These take buildings down, they don’t breach to see if someone has a gun to shoot at, you would not survive the shockwaves or building collapsing around you, Lol?
Did you ever even watch any liveleak video, all the syrian army and resistance fighters are using is 20 year old weapons, and assads army using soviet purchased, poland purchased, and france purchased mil 24s, mil-2s, gazelles, t72s, EVEN SHILKAS (LOL), Ive seen some mad max type vehicles put together pulled by a tractor or dudes firing recoilless guns from their shoulder, none of those small arms the govt allows us to have would stop a military advance is my point, I think the govt is very lenient with gun laws and gives americans the right to practice safe gun ownership, ofcourse humans have flaws and there is always people who abuse things for whatever reasons.
Sorry I’m getting way off topic now, just saying they are irrelevant vs a “20 year old dictatorship” let alone the current U.S. military arsenal. Nobody is preventing anything by owning small arms, it is their right and majority of american practice safe ownership, now knives well I don’t have nothing to say here, Lol.
There’s a point get stepped around all too often. Not for a minute will this Gov’t let us get hold of the technology now being used by the Military — not even the shoulder-fired weapons. Yeah, we’re allowed to own a little security against thugs and creeps, but if it ever, ever comes down to a quick-draw between Joe Dokes and Uncle Sam — duck and cover, kiddies…
Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, just to name a few. The U.S. couldn’t beat them. Makes a difference when you are fighting for a reason.
I can tell you don’t have any relevance to the article about a stabbing, nor my side conversation responding to the “dont ban guns the govt will be a dictatorship”; In all of those campaigns my friend, victory from a military standpoint was defined as completed missions, and statistical kill/death ratios, of which the U.S. did not even need to contend the ratio of killed vs died, from a random persons opinion who didn’t serve in either side of any of these campaigns.
The subjective implication that “if there is still living humans on this piece of land, they won”, well I won’t argue with that logic if you want to use it; I think from statistical standpoint with k/d ratios and completed campaigns you have no ground for basis other then a biased anti us perspective on reality. This is a side topic for another venue (not bdn). Don’t try to spew random misnomers without any factual evidence, I don’t want to hear any allah akbar dudes explaining how they lost generations of people compared to a few thousand us troops as victory, but as you may sir, go on in the off topic debate, I’m not replying about it, your view is minority and your own, maybe you can fly over there and help them rebuild all their cities (lol), just wear a bullet proof vest and get really tanned, grow a beard n learn ordu or something (still risky), Good day.
For those interested in truth – Look at the statistics, go watch apache guncam footage on youtube, those assault rifles and lil hand guns they give us the right to use would not do anything for you at all, I’m sorry but thats reality I can’t express some unrealistic view that you wish was the case. If we stayed in vietnam since the 70s there probably wouldn’t be any viets left…Lol? I’m glad we are out of iraq, and soon afghanistan, they have no infrastructure, (roads houses, whole towns in ruins); lost whole generations of middle aged working men (usually the ones engaging in “terrorist” activities), collateral damage ect ect.
Nothing would happen if they banned guns, or knives lol.
obama doesn’t need an unarmed populace to turn this into a dictatorship! All he needed was enough ignorant voters!
Yup all those ignorant GOP voters who thought Romney was actually going to be elected….lol Abby.
The sad fact remains. When people are confronted by a gunman, they are too shocked to draw a weapon. When a man jumps onto a stage in a movie theater and sprays them with lethal gunfire, many are unable to move. It’s a frightening situation. People are completely unprepared, unable to comprehend what is happening.
When a school boasting the finest protection devices fails to stop a deranged man from busting through a window and ultimately murdering 26 people, including six children, teachers ran into the hallway to see what was happening. Expecting to find a wild man firing a military weapon was the least of their concerns. They went to school to teach the children who got slain. No one stood a chance.
No different than an ambush, just like when you were in the service. But this is civilian life. Are we to wear flak jackets and tote repeaters when we go to the movies? And should teachers and kids strap on sidearms when they go to school?
These are but two instances where innocent people have been murdered by cranks armed with weapons that should only be carried by the military.
C’mon Willy, lets don’t get all THAT squawking started again. The article didn’t say a damned thing about guns… LOL
Most are gang or drug connected killings.
Stats and sources? Don’t just talk through your hat.
You’re Right. And they’re doing us all a favor when they kill each other.
Knives never run out of ammo. Most dangerous weapon in the long run.
They are also stealthy and quiet, ask OJ.
also Kool Aid in the wrong hands (Jim Jones, Jonestown Massacre)
How about David Koresh (Waco)..? How much Kool Aid did he use during his little sacrifice of his masses? Gun’s and fire to sacrifice himself and everybody around him, rather than die in a fire, he shot himself. Now there’s a gun junkie. Jim Jones also used automatic weapons against the visiting congressman (Leo Ryan), those with Ryan, and those who wanted to leave with him, prior to his poisoning of his “flock”. I believe he shot himself as well.
That is a reason not to let the Government define weapons. They have already banned shampoo on airplanes.
Had 6 TSA people standing around when the guidelines first came out. They were conferencing on my toothpaste. I said Throw it away! It cost 99c!
Ban people.
That is the only way to get rid of all violance
So what has this diagnosis have to do with the fact that someone was knifed to death? Who cares what was used? Be it a gun, knife, spoon, fork, shovel, curtain rod, hammer…?
A man died. Now we await the “Why,” so that experts on the shocking availability of kitchen cutlery can expound their theories about misuse – ad nauseam.
Yeah, but forks are ok in the mental ward?!?!
once while spooning I thought I died and went to heaven.
Spooning can be deadly!
Spooning can lead to swooning.
Gateway.
Gay marriages just started in Maine today, I’m sure it wont be long now.
In prison perhaps.
Too late. They’ve already gone over the precipice.
Sporks have more gusto!
How about forks
Wow, don’t waste your breath feeling sorry for this poor man. There is a time and a place for this kind of thing.
You mean like how the media is feeling sorry, for the Sandy Hook kids, and not just using the incident as a political foothold?
The media didn’t unleash a Bushmaster on children now did it? Congress didn’t use one to snipe those two firemen in New York either. I don’t care who pulled the triggers of the Bushmaster, I don’t want a Bushmaster’s trigger to be pulled on innocent people…
Any gun when used to kill is an assault weapon, as soon as they pull the trigger, No a mental case killed the kids, and the Firemen, not the gun, when a gun can walk around and shoot people all by itself please let the world know.
And that is for you to decide apparently. I don’t think Americans need to be listening to Justin Bieber, but I will defend to the death their liberty to do so.
Especially those who can’t think.
or you
With a knife the silly loons only kill one at a time,
It is not wholesale.
It is harder work, and more up close and personal than using a
military style weapon like a Bushmaster.
So that makes its ok to do just because it only can kill one at a time? You people are a joke.
these people lost their humor a while ago.
The Bushmaster WASN’T USED IN THE KILLINGS IN CONN. Why continue the Lie…
Do you have a link or citation for that? {sarcasm}
http://video.today.msnbc.msn.com/today/50208495
Don’t confuse the story with facts.
“Reverend” Carlson.
they’re just using the whole thing to push through their agenda.
senator fienstien stated that she’s been working on the upcoming weapons legislation for over a year.
And it wasn’t a spoon or a rototiller, a Rottweiler or a rutabaga. Wait, how did it get here again after a stabbing anyhow? AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
actually multiple people were killed in an attack in china in 2010.
i think 20 died. something like that.
so yes, time to ban assault knives.
You seem to know an awful lot about killing with knives, Mitt!
Experienced??????
We must band together to ban apartment buildings.
Classic NRA diversion. Unknown if the person who stabbed the victim was defending themselves or not. One knife, one person. This, http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2012/12/29/news/portland/2-dead-1-hospitalized-after-biddeford-standoff/ is one gun, 2 dead and 1 in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Let me see: One knife, one death. One gun (Bushmaster 223) : 27 innocent people dead. (25 in Ct., 2 firefighters in NY) , All in less than a month. Classic numbers as well., but by golly, Walmart is selling them like hot cakes! And I’m not talking about knives……….
More people die from knives and hands and feet than from so-called assault rifles.
If we are serious about banning weapons used on children, we need to ban scalpels. This should cut the number of deaths of children down drastically.
Doctors kill more than any other group.
A time to lift the ban on thinking.
Why not release the person name that did the stabbing.
it’s either a juvenile, a minority, or they don’t know.
My condolences to this man’s family and friends.
Such a sad story in this festive time of year.
If people would only count to “ten” before lashing out , while enraged, then
perhaps a life could be saved.
Senseless ….. no need of it.
Very sad. Prayers to this person’s family.
Somebody needs to file legislation banning all assault knives, people don’t kill people knives kill people.
What is the name of the person who owns this building?
Owns the building? What the hell does that have to do with anything?Let me guess….YOU want to blame the landlord for this stabbing.
I want to know if he’s a responsible landlord or not. And yes, I do believe that we should hold landlords responsible for their rental decisions.
What if it happened in a downtown business, would that business owner be liable in your eyes?
Not this again. How about people who commit the violent acts be held responsible? Wouldn’t that make more sense? Or do you have lots of time and money to be daddy to the whole city?
I’m more concerned about protecting my neighborhood from scum landlords who will rent to anybody to make a buck.
The problems in this city don’t come from landlords.
True, but some of the problems in my neighborhood do come from landlords.
Rental decisions? Section 8 is easy money for any landlord…
Are you serious? The only person responsible for stabbing the other person is the one that was holding the knife.
Why would that matter if the owner was not involved in the stabbing?
Don’t even bother, you’ll only encourage him.
Yes, I know.
What is the name of the city that allowed the building in it’s borders??? or their parents, teachers, political representives.. Why was this building allowed to be built in the first place?
Good one push!!! And who on earth supplied the building materials?
Edward Scissorhands.
before you blame the landlord you may want to consider how the liberal maine laws make it very difficult to actually remove a tenant under any circumstances. if you do everything right you are looking at 2-3 months time plus $500-1000 in attorney fees & other associated costs and the tenant will probably stop paying rent while this is going on. additionally, the maine human rights commission is on a discrimination witch-hunt trying to find landlords who “discriminate” against any applicants or existing tenants. the fines are brutal. if i have a tenant in place who is paying the rent, are you, Bangorian, going to cover my costs to get rid of this person because I suspect they may be a potential troublemaker? i hope you have deep pockets.
I’m not interested in hearing whining about how hard it is to remove a lousy tenant, because a responsible landlord would do a proper screening and prevent that situation from occurring in the first place.
I’m certainly not going to cover the costs that you incurred because of your sloppy rental decisions. In fact, I’m advocating for you to be fined for them.
I do screen them – thoroughly – and as a result I have very few problems. However, do this long enough and either one will slip through the cracks or someone who has a clean history and good references will do something you wish they didn’t. If you would kindly share your secrets on how to definitively predict and control the future and human nature we all may learn something here.
Ignore bang-orian…he is so far out there, the lack of oxygen makes him certifiable.
Understood. So let’s have the name of the landlord, so that we can decide if this is ‘one that slipped through the cracks’, or if they guy is a slumlord.
It’s a matter of public record. If you want to know so bad, YOU make the calls and find out who owns it!
It seems like there is so much violence in the world today and people don’t think at all they only have anger on their minds at the time and don’t think of the consequences of their actions it makes me sad my condolences to the family and friends of everybody involved.
Can someone tell me a year there was not any violence? Maybe the 70s when all those killers were running around, gates, bundy, son of sam, zodiac, BTK, hill side stranglers, night stalker, Manson, Jim jones, dalmer ect…. the list goes on, or maybe it was the hitler years, or the kkk years when there was no violence, and back then there were no video games, so it must have been tv and movies that caused it.
I know that there has always been violence but it seems like you can’t read the paper or talk to somebody that you don’t hear of someone getting knifed shot or beat to death.
It has become a “Throwaway World”… which INCLUDES people’s lives…
A lot of rage….way too much.
There is no reason for violent assault on a person. Condolences to this man’s family and friends. I’m saddened that people have become so violent.
Less GOD……more violence!
Have you ever read the bible? There is a ton of violence in it and your god was giving the orders.
Kevin, Once a Catholic always a Catholic.
we need more violins
Sax and violins.
Sax, drums, and violins….
That must be why countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan etc. have so much violent crime…
not the same culture, no comparison
Nope there has always been violence in History even when God was not considered a offensive word. I’m not a god person, but also not offended by the word either.
What do you mean?? That there never is reason to assult someone? I disagree. As for this incident I don’t know what happen.
There is never a need for assault. Look up the word.
There’s that, self-preservation predates laws and legal systems…
Nice to hear from you again.
When have people not been violent? Anytime in history will do for an example?
we need to get these weapons of medieval war off our streets!
Oh no, you’ll pry my broadsword from my twitching fingers, laddie! And don’t cast an eye on my mace or truncheon either… LOL
Do assault knives have bayonet lugs?
So nice of the BDN to publish such a gross photo. That poor mans family, no matter what HE did, THEY have to see that.. shame.
they published 2 men kissing on the front cover.
I don’t think there’s anything they won’t publish now.
What’s wrong with two men kissing? Blood at the scene of someones death is more than just gross.
I’d rather see this blood bath than look at those old homos making out.
They don’t have to see anything. Nobody is forcing them to come to this news site and if one of my loved ones was stabbed and died the last thing I would be doing is checking out the local stories online.
WTF bangor?
you’ve surpassed lewiston as the trash hole of the state!
Waterville is still in the lead.
BATH SALTS!!!!
is that just a guess?
This is my husband and right now his family and I need u all for prays not stupid disscusions
Sorry for your the loss of your husband
sorry for your loss.
im so sorry Tina..you my family an i just cant amagine what your going through please be strong
Ban knives!
Well, that is an interesting picture, isn’t it? Suppose there shouldn’t be any question as to why we live in such a violent society. We are desensitized by all the violence constantly portrayed in the media and popular culture. I mean, do we really need to see a picture of a bloody door and steps? Is that really required?
Looks like it was one hell of a party.
he was a good man and didnt do drugs. He went to Scott Plummers house and he was all munkey dusted out i know i was there. Scott beleived my husband was after him and before i turned my head he was dead. He was a good man and tried to help everyone. Thank you to the ones that is sending ur prayers and condolunces
I hope you can find peace, as your brother has. Any my earlier offer stands.
If I were you I pull that comment down immediately. The police haven’t charge the person you mentioned. Any comments posted without proof by authorities or charges constitutes defamation of character and subjects you to a lawsuit, regardless of that persons perceived character.
“Any comments posted without proof by authorities or charges constitutes defamation of character… ”
Not true. She has a First Amendment right to say what she knows. The authorities are not the final arbiters of what is true.
Yeah, you’re right but it’s in print and that’s libel. It’s not a passing conversation between two – five people.
It’s not libel if it’s true. The outcome of a criminal investigation has no bearing on the outcome of a civil lawsuit.
Opening the Bangor Daily News is beginning to remind me of childhood in New York, opening the paper each day and seeing how many murders took place.
So the paper should, what, ignore homicides?
Freddy’s back?
How many murders is this in Bangor, in 2012? Brockton,Ma.,is up to 6 including 2 last night. Of course Brockton,Ma. has over 140,000 more residents than Bangor Me,therefore Bangor’s murder rate per capita makes Brockton a safer city.
Brockton 93,000
Bangor 33,000
And that equals 140,000 to you…nice math.
Brockton is widely believed to have 40,000 or more, unregistered residents. 140,000 or more.
What exactly is an “unregistered” resident? Since when does anybody have to “register” as a resident?
I don’t see Bangor on this list, but Brockton sure is and this is based on violent crimes.

Absurd comments fail to erase the fact that the driveway at 80 Elm Street looked like someone had gutted a deer.
This type of activity shouldn’t be happening in Bangor
Why this story didn’t make Page One in your city edition astounds me.
