BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor man arrested and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon after a fracas Monday afternoon in Pickering Square remained in jail early Tuesday evening.
Several Bangor police officers responded after Pickering Square garage attendants called to complain about drunken, disorderly behavior by a few men, who also appeared to be fighting.
“There were a bunch of guys down there who were intoxicated and yelling at passers-by,” said Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards. “Apparently they attacked a male victim and one of the men kneed the victim in the groin and then showed a knife.”
John C. Leonard, 47, of Bangor was taken into custody and charged. He remained at the Penobscot County Jail early Tuesday evening after failing to post $500 cash bail.
The incident was reported at 2:23 p.m. Monday.
“There were a number of heavily intoxicated people around there, so it was hard to get good witness statements,” said Edwards. “But apparently one of the men pulled a knife and threatened somebody.”
Officers searched for a weapon, and Edwards confirmed that they did recover a spring-assisted, folding knife at the scene.
