NEWPORT and EXETER – Elaine Marie Leavitt, 53, died Jan. 22, 2013, at a Bangor hospital after a battle with cancer. She was born June 15, 1959, in Dexter, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Helen Marie (Bishop) Leavitt.
She graduated from Dexter High School, class of 1977. Elaine fought ovarian cancer for four years. She had been employed as a certified nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. She will be remembered as a loving, caring person who always helped others, both inside and outside of work.
She is survived by two sisters, Christine and Lorraine Leavitt, both of Dexter; a stepbrother, Richard Leavitt of Ripley; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Leavitt, Sept. 2, 2012.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Chapel of St. Joseph Hospital, 360 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau presiding.
