NEWPORT and EXETER – Elaine Marie Leavitt, 53, died Jan. 22, 2013, at a Bangor hospital after a battle with cancer. She was born June 15, 1959, in Dexter, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Helen Marie (Bishop) Leavitt.
She graduated from Dexter High School, class of 1977. Elaine fought ovarian cancer for four years. She had been employed as a certified nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. She will be remembered as a loving, caring person who always helped others, both inside and outside of work.
She is survived by two sisters, Christine and Lorraine Leavitt, both of Dexter; a stepbrother, Richard Leavitt of Ripley; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Leavitt, Sept. 2, 2012.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Chapel of St. Joseph Hospital, 360 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau presiding. Spring interment will be at Exeter Center Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
