BUCKS HARBOR – Millard Harris Urquhart Jr., 88, passed away peacefully at his home March 31, 2013, while surrounded by his family. Millard was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Bar Harbor. He was one of the nine children born to Nellie and Millard Urquhart Sr.
Millard spent part of his childhood raised with his brothers and sisters on Seguin Island while his parents worked as the lighthouse keepers off Popham. He served bravely in World War II as a tank driver and upon his return home, married the love of his life, Millie (Alley) Urquhart. Millard and Millie celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 15, 2012. He started his family with Millie in Jonesport, and then later they moved to Bucks Harbor where he started many successful businesses. He was the proud owner of Bucks Harbor Lobster Company, Bucks Harbor Seafood, with Alfred Polk and Roamer Company, with Jullian Colbeth. He retired in Bucks Harbor as a well respected member of the community. Millard had many past times he enjoyed in his retirement including bowling, golfing, target shooting, and above all spending time with his family. He was a member of the Gideons and a member of Bucks Harbor Baptist Church .
He is survived by his wife Millie (Alley) Urquhart; son, Dana L. Urquhart and wife, Carolyn, of Jonesboro; daughter, Darlene U. Wood and husband, Cecil, of Machiasport; grandson, Charles Ashton Urquhart and wife, Tracy, of Hallowell; grandson, Christopher Harris Urquhart and wife, Morgan, of Bangor; granddaughter, Amanda Sprague and husband, Eric, of Machiasport; granddaughter, Natalie Boldeia and husband, Mark, of Merrimac. N.H.; grandson, Elijah Wood of Machiasport; great-grandson Dexter Douglas Urquhart of Bangor; three brothers, Adelmar Urquhart and wife, Beatrice, of Jonesport, Carl Urquhart and wife, Gracie, of Wiscasset and Orrin Urquhart and wife, Colleen, of Marshfield; two sisters, Madie U. Seavey of Jonesport and Gracie Urquhart of Cherryfield. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Allen and Wendell; and a sister Mary.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Bucks Harbor Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Wood officiating. Following the service a brief communal gathering will be held at the church. Committal services will follow 3:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. Both services are open to the public. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Bucks Harbor Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
