MILFORD – George W. “Duke” Snyder, 86, died April 28, 2013, at his residence. He was born March 9, 1927, in Byron, Ill., a son of Anna M. Snyder.
He served 20 years in the military with three years in the U.S. Army and 17 years in the U.S. Air Force working mainly in the military police. He left the service in 1966 with the rank of staff sargent. He then worked for Maine Distributors of Bangor, retiring in 1991. George married Norma (Bartlett) Sept. 13, 1980. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, bowling, gardening and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and the University of Maine hockey program.
He is survived by his wife, Norma of Milford; four children, Scott W. Snyder and wife, Mary Ann, of Maryland, Jeffrey C. Snyder and wife, Debbie, of Bangor, Lori S. Noble and husband, James, of Sebec and Marla J. Jones and husband, Mike, of Maryland; six grandchildren, Alexandra Jones, Frederick Howard, Michael Snyder, Nathan Snyder, Nicholas Jones and Starla Howard; five great-grandchildren, Eva, Noah, Aaron, Ari and Lily; four sisters, Julie Fullerton of Wisconsin, Dorothy Kauffman, Josephine Lizer and Karen Nolan; and brother, Leroy Snyder, all of Ilinois. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Gloria Pettenger.
