ORLAND – Stephen B. McGraw, 66, died April 27, 2013, at West Roxbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Massachusetts. He was born June 30, 1946, in Blue Hill, son of William and Anna (Leighton) McGraw.
Stephen was a 1964 graduate of George Stevens Academy and a graduate of Beal College, Bangor. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Grenadier and the USS Pulaski as a torpedo man during the Vietnam era. After the Navy, he became manager of Bar Harbor Banking and Trust, Blue Hill, and spent the remainder of his career working with his brother building boats. Stephen was a member of Franklin Veterans Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He was an avid sports fan and liked all the Boston teams, loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Stephen was proud to serve in the Navy. His heart was always in East Blue Hill, a place he loved.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen Bruce McGraw II of Brooklin, and Joseph Patrick McGraw and wife, Casey, of Penobscot; grandchildren, Brandon Stephen Astbury, Derek William McGraw, Anaeva Jenn McGraw and Morgan Delaney McGraw; stepsons, Christopher and Joseph LaBranche; brother, David W. McGraw and wife, Ann; his special canine friend, Coconut; and extended McGraw family. He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at East Blue Hill Baptist Church.
