BANGOR, Maine — A local man who called police to have his ex-girlfriend removed from his residence was arrested when the woman told officers the man had assaulted her.

Asa Mace, 52, remained at the Penobscot County Jail Thursday afternoon, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Officers were called to a Union Street address just after 6 p.m. Wednesday to deal with the situation, Edwards said.

“When they got down to the nitty-gritty they determined he was the one that was the aggressor and arrested him for domestic violence assault on her,” Edwards said.

The woman told police at the scene she was “assaulted everywhere,” the sergeant said. The only visible injury the woman had was a black eye, according to Edwards.
