BRADLEY – Gertrude “Trudy” (Wood) Glidden, 88, passed away May 24, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Belfast, daughter of Kenneth H. and Annie (Ricker) Wood.
Trudy retired from the former James A. Taylor Osteopathic Hospital, Bangor. She spent many years as an operating room and obstetrical nurse and helped deliver some of her own grandchildren. She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 17 years. While in the Coast Guard Auxiliary she was involved in teaching safe boating classes for the public, vessel inspections for safety issues, and assisted in search and rescue operations. She was flotilla captain for District 1 and she organized two auxiliary flotilla groups, one in Searsport and one in Jonesport. Trudy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, boating and spending summers at camp on Molasses Pond. She loved to play the organ. Hobbies included knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing, photography, cake decorating, scrapbooking, miniatures, dollhouses and doll collecting. She was an excellent Scrabble player and enjoyed the simplicity of her new favorite word game Appletters.
Surviving is four daughters, Dawn Spinney of Bangor, Sharon Cobb and husband, Lee, of Holden, Linda Dupuis and husband, Steve, of Plymouth and Suanne Glidden and husband, Tom, of Bradley; stepdaughter, Linda Laney and husband, Bill, of Redding, Calif.; sister, Barbara Cahill of Dover-Foxcroft; and several nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her seven grandchildren, Laurie Robertson of Bangor, Debbie Joslyn and spouse, Don, of Bangor, Tammy Tinkham and spouse, Tim, of Moorseville, N.C., Jason Glidden and spouse, Krissy, of Poland, ME, Heidi Dupuis and companion, Keith, of Corinth, Bethanee Syversen and spouse, Jason, of Dunbarton, N.H., and Angela LeePow and spouse, Chris, of Saco. She adored her 14 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa, Makayla, Jessica, Christopher, Jeremiah, Zachary, Emily, Caleb, Tiera, Jaidyn, Ivory, Owen and Cora; and two great-great-grandchildren, Elijah and Carter and expecting a third in September. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin; two brothers, Harold and Kenneth Wood; and special aunt, Helen (Shonnie) Butler.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 2-3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Hermon Baptist Church, with services after at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Garnette Chute, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall after the service. Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley.
