BANGOR and WINTERPORT – Virginia “Ginny” Elaine Tillinghast, 83, passed away unexpectedly May 22, 2013, at her home in Bangor. She was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Ellsworth, daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Libby) Hamor.
Ginny was a prolific reader. She enjoyed her crossword puzzles and was a bird enthusiast. Ginny will be fondly remembered for her famous peanut butter cake, which her grandchildren just loved. She loved times with her grandchildren, who she was very proud of and all their accomplishments. Almost more than family she loved the Boston Red Sox and her greatest joy was to see them win the World Series.
She is survived by her children, Joanne Bernache of Bangor, Sharon McCay of Florida, Kathy Caver of Bangor, Carol McLaughlin of Gardiner and John Skidgell and wife, Cindy, of Holden; brothers, Richard “Dick” Hamor of Winterport and Morris Hamor of Brunswick; sister, Marion Bracy of Connecticut; grandchildren, Allen, Rene, Gerald Jr., Meredith, Carey, Sherry, Llona, Melissa, Sterling and Tammy; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her many dear senior community friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Stanley and Ben Skidgell; and her husband and father to her children, Sterling Skidgell in 1996.
A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor Dave Morrison officiating.
