HOULTON – Claude L. Nickerson, 93, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at a Houlton hospital. He was born April 3, 1920, in Hodgdon, son of Chester and Della (Richardson) Nickerson.
Claude served his country in World War II as a mechanic in the 91st Bomb Group. After his discharge he worked for many years at various parts and mechanic establishments. He was a master mason of Monument No. 96 AF & AM and also attended Houlton Wesleyan Church. Claude enjoyed woodworking, gardening and especially having coffee with his friends at McDonald’s.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ladd, of Houlton; eight children, Blaine Nickerson and wife, Debbie, of Houlton, Michael Nickerson and wife, Joni, of New Gloucester, Arnie Ladd and wife, Maureen, of Chicago, Nelson Ladd and wife, Pat, of Connecticut, Barry Ladd of Sherman, Geraldine McAfee of Houlton, Rose Blight of Florida and Nancy Tingley and husband, Gary, of New Limerick; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters, Avis Martel of Connecticut, and Marion Taylor of Sullivan; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dana Wilson of Houlton. In addition to his parents, Claude was predeceased by two wives, Elsie Katherine Nickerson and Lillian (Stitham) Nickerson; brother, Ralph Nickerson; three sisters, Vivian Gehan, Hilda Beers and Carie Goren.
Friends may call noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating, with a Masonic service preceding. Interment with military honors will take place after the service at Hodgdon Cemetery.
