CASTLE HILL – Florence R. (Richardson) Johnson, 91, passed away Saturday evening, May 25, 2013, after a brief illness at Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. She was born June 4, 1921, in Castle Hill, daughter of James and Mary Ellen (Kennedy) Richardson.
She was a very caring and compassionate Christian woman living her life as a wife, mother and homemaker. Her raspberry and lemon pies were evidence of her great cooking skills along with seamstress abilities and in the gift of quilts that will keep her memory alive. Florence was a member of Castle Hill Advent Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and served as a prayer warrior. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Washburn.
Surviving her are three daughters, Adena Wilson of Presque Isle, Brenda Grass and husband, Duane, of Mars Hill, Sally LaPlante and husband, Felix, of Newberg, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson of Presque Isle; several grandchildren, Andrea Smith and husband, Steven, Lori O’Clair and husband, James, Todd Wilson and wife, Rebecca, Alison Smoldt and husband, Jeffrey, Charles Wilson and wife, Tracy, Kevin Grass and wife, Donna, Beth Cook and husband, Chris, Andy Grass and wife, Brittany, Melissa St. Peter and husband, Brian, and Scott LaPlante; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Skidgel and Leila Cary; and brother, Herbert Richardson. In addition to her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Thomas Johnson in April 2013; son, Michael Johnson in January 2013; five sisters, Lillian, Clara, Lavina, Verna and Lucy; three brothers, Edward, Willard, and Alton; and an infant granddaughter, Janelle LaPlante. The family wishes to thank the staff of Aroostook Health Center for their loving care of Florence.
Relatives and friends may call 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held noon Wednesday, May 29, with Pastor Lucy Lovley and Donald McDaniels officiating. Immediately after the service, a reception will be held at the funeral home. Interment will be at Castle Hill Cemetery.
