CARIBOU – Donald F. Susee, 78, died May 31, 2013, in Caribou, after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Manchester, N.H., son of the late Walter and Ida (Provost) Susee.
He was a graduate of Caribou High School, class of 1953, where he served as class president and for the past 50 years help to organize class reunions. In 1953 Mr. Susee enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard 152nd Field Artillery. In 1956 he was hired as a full time Battalion Personnel Sargent. After his honorable discharge from the guard, Mr. Susee was employed as a loan officer with Northern National Bank, Aroostook Trust Company and Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan. He married Natalie Beaulieu May 5, 1962. Don was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a past member of Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus. He was a member and past president of Caribou Jaycees and was an active member of Caribou Lions Club, where he served as treasurer, vice president and director. He was an avid baseball fan and he excelled in both baseball and softball. He organized, coached, managed and played on the Caribou “Super Suds” baseball team in the 1950s as well as the Bosox Caribou fast pitch softball league. Don also coached/managed several Caribou youth baseball teams, including American Legion. Pony League, Babe Ruth and Caribou Little League. Don also loved to hunt golf and bowl.
Surviving in addition to his loving and devoted wife of more than 50 years, Natalie of Caribou; is son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kathy Susee; and daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and David Keaton all of Caribou. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Erin and Evan Susee and Emily and Katie Keaton, and Don could often be found at many of their activities, supporting them. He’s also survived by mother-in-law, Edmay Beaulieu of Caribou; several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friends, Larry and Brenda Swafford of Woodland. Mr. Susee was predeceased by two sisters, Ray Dow and Jeannelle Trembley; and three brothers, Walter Jr., Robert and Maxwell Susee.
Friends may visit with the family 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be at Old Holy Rosary Cemetery. After the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the parish center.
