ORONO – Mary T. Taylor, 95, wife of Roger F. Taylor, died June 4, 2013, in Bangor. She was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Wilmington, Del., daughter of Alec and Tekla Butynski.
She attended schools in Montague, Mass., and Turner’s Falls, Mass., and worked for several years in New York City and vicinity, before returning to work at Bement School, Deerfield, Mass. In 1940 she married Roger, becoming a dedicated homemaker, as well as helpmate, an accomplished seamstress, gardener, and loving mother of four. She was always proud of her home and family. During the many years her husband was employed at the University of Maine, Orono, Mary was active with several student groups such as Forestry Wives Club, Student Forestry Club, National Society of American Foresters, and others, and assisted in a variety of tree growing projects at State Forest Nursery, and in the University Forest. Mary was also very active with Orono Health Association, serving a term as director, and for many years as a member of the organization group at the Thrift Shop, and helping Roger with distribution of medical aids for the O.H.A.
Mary is survived by daughter and husband, Eileen Taylor and Lyle Haggerty of Northampton, Mass.; three sons, Arthur and wife, Linda Taylor, of Milford, Larry Taylor, of Keene, N.H., and Gene Taylor of Ware, Mass.; two granddaughters, Andrea Taylor Grant and husband, Chris, of Shelburne, Vt., and Madisen Taylor of Ware, Mass., great-granddaughter, Taylor; great-grandson, Tucker; and several thoughtful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Roger F. Taylor. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for their excellent care, compassion and support. Special thanks to Bev for her in home care and support.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. June 14, at Our Lady of Wisdom, 83 College Ave., Orono. The family suggests that if friends desire they may make contributions to Roger F. and Mary T.
