PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Arnold P. Durost, 87, husband of Muriel J. Durost, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2013, at his Presque Isle residence, after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Fort Fairfield, son of Charles W. and Millie (Everett) Durost.
He attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Muriel J. Nason Aug. 26, 1952. Arnold was a member of Presque Isle Wesleyan Church and had been employed for 27 years as the manager at Loring Air Force Base Commissary, Limestone.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Durost was predeceased by four brothers, John, Walter, Clifford and Robert Durost; and two sisters, Lulu Durost and Helen Clark. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Muriel J. Durost of Presque Isle; two sons, Rev. Merritt C. Durost and wife, Amanda, of Easton, and Brandon S. Durost and companion, Christina, both of Caribou; two daughters, Laura M. Ward and husband, Russell, of Presque Isle, and Debbie J. Tompkins of Easton; brother and sister-in-law, Orin and Phyllis Durost of Mill Hall, Pa.; sister, Alice Durost of Fort Fairfield; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Celebration Center, Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Merritt C. Durost and the Rev. Roger Jewell co-officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
