CALAIS – Henry Bertram Culligan, 93, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Calais Regional Hospital. Henry was born in Vanceboro on March 31, 1920, son of the late Harry and Ruth (Jackman) Culligan. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving with the 1798th Ordnance Unit in the Asiatic Pacific region. During his service, Henry was awarded many medals, including the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. Following the war he returned to Maine and started his career with the railroad, retiring from Maine Central Railroad with 38 years of service. Henry was a member of St. Croix Lodge No. 46 A.F. & A.M.
Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia (Gravesen) Culligan; his sister, Frances Wallace; three nephews; and two cousins. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
