BUCKSPORT – Norma Ann Dorr, 79, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on August 5, 2013. Born in Bucksport on May 9, 1934, she was the daughter of Basil L. and Carrie A. (Grindle) Smith.
Norma graduated from Bucksport High School and also graduated with her Beautician’s license where she spent more then 50 years. Norma spent 10 years in the Bucksport School System as a Teacher’s Aid where everyone knew her as “Gram” she loved to be around children. Norma was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Family was everything to Norma. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and lived life to the fullest.
Norma was very heavily in her crafting. She would knit, quilt and sew anything to make sure her daughters and family had mittens, sweaters, socks anything to keep them warm. Her daughter’s have always known her as “Ms. Susie Home Maker.”
Norma is survived by her four daughters; Brenda Overlock and husband Bob, Kathy Downes of Bucksport, Rhonda Harrison and husband David of Frankfort, and Pam Fleming and husband Jim of Bucksport, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, one brother Paul Smith and wife Marge of Monroe, two sisters Arlene Freeman of Bucksport and Joyce Sanborn and husband Ernest of Florida, special canine companion Pete, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Raymond H. Dorr who passed away in 2011, four grandchildren and brothers, Junior and Clifford Smith.
Family and Friends will gather for visitation from 6-8pm on Monday August 12 at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm Street Bucksport. A graveside service will be held at 11am Tuesday at Silver Lake Cemetery with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
