BUCKSPORT – Dorothy L. (King) (Gross) Moody, 88, went home to be with the Lord Aug. 12, 2013, at home after an extensive battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Bangor, to Maurice and Dora King.
Growing up in Orrington, she was a 1943 graduate of Brewer High School. Dorothy was married to her first love, Earl “Buddy” Gross, (1945-1968), and had three cherished daughters, Earleen, Peggy and Nancy. She was blessed to find true love again with Ardine Moody, (1973-1999), of Lincoln and gain four loving stepsons, Robert, Byron, Duane and Jeff.
Dorothy lived out her Christian faith with abiding grace, unchanging love, deep compassion, and strong character. She prayed daily for family, friends, and those she knew who were going through difficult times. She was quick to aid those who needed a helping hand and an encouraging word. Dorothy committed herself to the work of the churches she attended whether in Bucksport, Lincoln or Orrington.
Dorothy and Ardine loved to travel and camp together. Their favorite camping sites were Cobscook Bay State Park and Camden Hills State Park, and they always enjoyed time spent at Baxter State Park. She was an avid reader and an excellent letter writer; diligent in her correspondence.
Later in life, she cherished her monthly lunches with classmates, her work with The Old Yellow School House on Route 46, the Extension group, and Thursday lunches at the Bucksmills Rod and Gun Club.
Family was a top priority for Dorothy. Her unconditional love was evenly spread over five generations, from her siblings and their families to all of the Gross and Moody families. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her incredible joy. She wanted to know what they were doing and how well things were going for each of them. She enjoyed all the festivities and family gatherings and spent much time in the kitchen preparing those special meals.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Peggy Dunbar and Wade Ferro; devoted son-in-law, Floyd Clement and Sue Carlisle; stepsons, Robert and Grethe Moody, Byron and Sandra Moody and Jeffrey and Constance Moody; sisters, Alice Provost, and Betty and Bob Masse; brother, Carlton and Rosie King; brother-in-law, Roland Chesley; grandchildren, Kevin Clement and Barbara, Larry and Michelle Clement, Earl “Buddy” and Jodi Clement, Rob Dunbar and Debbie Young, Toby Dunbar and Todd Loveland, Luke and Lauren Gross, Robert Moody Jr., James Moody, Joshua Moody, Denise and Brian Friedl, Doreen and Robert Kearns, Deborah Moody, Aaron Moody, Mark and Janice Moody, Stephanie and Jeff Miller, Kimberly and Ambiorix Calderon, and Laurelle Moody; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
