DOVER-FOXCROFT and LINCOLN – Elva (Jeffrey) Murphy passed away Aug. 22, 2013, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital at the age of 96. Elva was born May 31, 1917, in Williamsburg, New Brunswick.
She came to Bangor and worked as a housekeeper and nanny until she married. Elva and Major Murphy raised twin boys as they traveled across the United States and Okinawa during his career in the military. They retired to Lincoln where Elva enjoyed many years with friends and family. She was an avid bridge player and she enjoyed knitting.
She was predeceased by her husband, Major Robert Murphy; her son, Robert Murphy Jr.; her grandson, Robert Murphy III; her sisters, Ena and Helen; her brothers, Bert, Ralph and Charles; and a nephew, Dee Dee Lyons. Elva is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Ronald Murphy and his wife, Mary, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; granddaughters, Laurie Murphy and Pam Murphy; her nieces, Polly Lyons and Mariel Knights of Lincoln; and her nephew, Bill Mitchell and his wife, Kimberly, of Glenburn.
A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Lincoln Cemetery, with the Rev. Roy Richardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
