GRAY, Maine — Although the first week of October produced nothing but blue skies and sunshine, that has been replaced with high winds and rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind advisory for northern and eastern portions of Maine.

High winds and rain are expected during the day Monday and into Tuesday, according to the weather service. Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Hancock, Aroostook and Washington counties should expect to see high winds and the possibility of heavy rain.

The wind advisory will be in effect from 2 to 11 p.m. Monday. Gusts could reach 50 mph.

Such high winds can produce downed trees and power lines.
