BELFAST – Alcadia (Hutchins) Dean, passed away Oct. 9, 2013, at a local nursing facility. She was born May 5, 1910 in Freedom, the daughter of Fred E. and Grace White Hutchins.
She attended Freedom Academy and graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1927 after which she taught schools until her marriage to Harold E. Dean of Lincolnville, in October 1930. She retired to the life of a farmer’s wife until her children were grown when she returned to work in Belfast shoe factories until retiring to their home in Swanville. She was a lifetime member of the Maine State Grange and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed the outdoors, taking long walks and maintaining a garden. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and making hooked rugs.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; a son, Ralph; two daughters, infant, Shirley, and Margaret Moore; a granddaughter, Karen Moore; great-grandson, Howard E. Moore II; and two brothers, Robert and Alden Hutchins. She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Walker of Swanville; grandchildren, Carolyn Knight and husband, James, of Monroe, Harold Moore and wife, Cheryl, of Jackson, Robert Moore, David Moore and wife, Catherine, “Mickey” McIntire and wife, Cynthia, Ralph and Kenneth Walker, all of Swanville, Janet Walker of Fort Worth, Texas, Janine Edgington and husband, Larry, of Harrison, Ark., and Alan Walker of Gray; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-granchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where the funeral will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Lambert officiating.
