ALFRED, Maine — York County Sheriff’s Deputies will step up patrol on Halloween night with a focus on keeping children safe.
The department will hold its “Operation Blue Light” in every town they patrol, according to Chief Deputy William King.
A deputy’s cruiser will be positioned at a prominent location with their emergency lights activated, with treats available for children wearing costumes.
The goal of “Operation Blue Light”, King said, is to place more deputies on the streets in an effort to curb people trying to entice children into their vehicles. Recently, a complaint in Shapleigh had been received when a 15-year-old girl was approached by a man driving a van. He drove off when the girl started to make a call on her cell phone.
Sheriff’s deputies are advising the public to report any unusual or suspicious activity to local police or to the sheriff’s department.
