WASHBURN – Hanford P. Duncan, 85, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born on Feb. 17, 1928, in Washburn, the son of Kenneth and Florence (Crouse) Duncan.
Hanford was a medical technician in the U.S. Army. After his Honorable Discharge, he came home to help his father with the family farm. Later, he also worked for McCain’s Processing Plant in Washburn and Easton. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Washburn. He served as Treasurer for over 53 years and also served as a Deacon, Trustee and Usher.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Pooler) Duncan. They were married for 63 wonderful years. He has two special daughters and their spouses, Janet and Donald Peary of Washburn, and Lori and James McKeen of Bangor, one grandson; Christopher Duncan Peary; a granddaughter, Lindsay Linton Neagle and her husband, Joshua, all of Bangor, two adopted grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tyler Boyd of Washburn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Duncan Jr.; and sister, Catherine Ziegler.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn, with the Rev. Otto Palmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center, 10 Bernadette St., Caribou ME 04736; and The Aroostook Health Center Mars Hill, Activity Fund, 15 Highland Ave., Mars Hill, ME 04758.
