HOULTON – Joyce M. Hovey RN, went home to be with her Lord Nov. 2, 2013, from a local health care facility. She was born June 6, 1933, in Houlton, the daughter of William and Iva (Day) Blake.
She attended Houlton Schools and was a graduate of Houlton High School, class of 1951. She then went on to Nursing School and worked many years with both the Madigan Hospital and the Aroostook Hospital. She was a member of Houlton Military Street Baptist Church and the Houlton Rebekah’s where she enjoyed bowling in the Ladies League, she also enjoyed all the times at East Grand Lake with family and friends. Joyce’s greatest love was for her family and her Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Hovey of Houlton; three sons, Michael of Houlton, Billy of Hodgdon, and Brian of Hampden; four daughters, Karen DeRyke of Arizona, Lori Tidd, Tammy Goetsch, and Susan Goetsch, all of Houlton; one brother, Lawrence Blake of Houlton; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Kenneth and Howard; sisters, Vera Blake and Eleanor Brown; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Ann Hovey.
A service to honor and celebrate Joyce’s life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Military Street Baptist Church, with Pastor Randall Burns officiating.
