PORTLAND – William Bernard Troubh, 78, passed away Nov. 8, 2013, surrounded by family. William was born April 24, 1935, in Portland, to Maurice and Sadye Brickman Troubh.
He was raised on Sherman Street and graduated from Portland High School, the University of Maine at Orono and received a law degree from University of Maine School of Law. William married Nancy Jane Shaw of Sanford on April 13, 1967.
William was a founding partner of the Portland law firm Troubh Heisler. In addition to his long-time practice of law, William was a compassionate public servant who led with honesty and integrity. He served multiple terms as City Councilor and was Mayor of the City of Portland in 1974/75 and 1983/84. William loved the City of Portland and was actively engaged in civic causes. Through his visionary leadership, William was instrumental in the development of the Portland Waterfront, Portland Sea Dogs, Cumberland County Civic Center and the Portland Ice Arena.
William always enjoyed time with his family and friends who looked forward to seeing his warm smile. His special times included fishing on Thompson Lake, golfing at the Portland Country Club, spending summer afternoons at Hadlock field and watching the Red Sox. Above all, William was a dedicated, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. No matter how great or small the circumstances he was always there for support and guidance.
William is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his sons, Kenneth and wife, Stacy, of Mill Valley, Calif., Jed and his wife, Bonnie, of Falmouth, Mikael and his wife, Helena, of Silver Spring, Md., and Thomas and his wife, Natalie, of Hoboken, N.J.; grandchildren, Jared, Jessica, Samantha, Zoe, Alexander, Max, Hannah, Jacob, and Isabelle; brother, Raymond and Jean of New York, N.Y.; and sister, Charlotte and Kevin of Cambridge, Mass.
A funeral service for William will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Temple Beth El, 400 Deering Ave., Portland. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 107, Scarborough, ME 04074. Care for William and his family has been entrusted to Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.
