EPHRATA, PA. – Lawrence “Larry” Rundlett, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 28, 2013, with his beloved wife Melanie by his side.
Larry was born in Rockland. He served in Germany for the U.S. Army as a heavy-equipment driver and boxed for the Special Services Seventh as a welter-weight champion. Larry graduated from the University of Maine-Orono and taught math at Kennebunk High School. He later went on to study Navy Health Physics, becoming an instructor of Radiological Protection on nuclear submarines. Larry finished his career by working in the commercial nuclear power field under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Larry was the consummate life and sports enthusiast: he was a certified Captain of the Life Guards in Kennebunk; a ski instructor; a white water rafting guide; a certified PADI diver; and a certified referee for the College Basketball Officials Association, CBOA. With his wife Melanie, they became avid tennis players and fans of the game along with kayaking the entire coast of Maine.
Larry was predeceased by his half sister, Barbara Gerrish of Wells; and his half brother, David Blue of Redding, Calif. He is survived by his spouse of 21 years, Melanie Appleby Rundlett; and three brothers; half brother, John; twin brother, George “Buzz” and wife, Linda; and Ellsworth “Derry” Rundlett III and wife, Marilyn. He is also survived by his children; son, Mark; daughter, Sherri; grandson, Nathan; great-grandson, Tyler; daughter, Sara and her husband, Tim; granddaughter, Ladybird; and son, Christopher and his fiancée, Sophia; and granddaughter, LuLu.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, Pa., with the Rev. Mardean Moyer officiating. Larry’s family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
