PITTSFIELD – Norma C. (Hutchinson) Scott, 82, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at her home in Pittsfield, with her family by her side. She was born on Dec. 2, 1931, in Farmington, the daughter of Ray Delmont and Dorothy Muriel (Young) Hutchinson.
She was educated in local area schools and graduated from Somerset Academy in 1949. Norma married Brady Scott on Dec. 31, 1949. She lived most of her life on Sibley Pond in Pittsfield. She worked various jobs including hand lacing at Medwed Shoe Co. Later she was employed, for 15 years, by the Maine State Department of Conservation where she was an Assistant Park Ranger in the Allagash and there she made many friends.
Norma was a 20 year member of the Pittsfield Community Garden Club and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Newport. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, quilting, crossword puzzles and as a young mother, made her children’s clothes. She also loved to water ski, downhill skiing, fishing, hunting and loved to travel having made trips to Alaska, Florida and Canada.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Brady Scott of Pittsfield; two daughters, Emily Scott and husband, Jim Love, of Pittsfield and Wendy Macdonald and husband, Kevin, of Belgrade Lakes; and two sons, Michael Scott of Athens and Larry Scott and wife, Marjorie, all of Athens. Norma has 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make donations in Norma’s memory to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903; or the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove St., Newport, ME 04953. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to The Alfond Cancer Center, Maine General Hospice and Abby Thrower, MD.
