BREWER – Steven Paul Murray, 58, passed away Jan. 31, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 15, 1955, in Boston, the son of Francis and Irene (Bertrand) Murray.
The Murray’s moved to Hampden when Steven was 15. He worked for Young’s Canvas Shop when he got out of the Marines in 1975. He started Steve’s Canvas and Upholstery in 1981 and operated the business until his passing. Steve loved race cars and enjoyed drag racing. He drag raced Semi-Professionally for several years. Steve was a great businessman, and a wonderful husband and father. He took great pride in his work and accomplishments. He had a big heart, and liked helping others. He especially enjoyed taking family vacations.
He will be forever loved and missed by his best friend, Brenda Hincks of Orrington; children; daughters, Heather (Murray) Assi Antonin and her husband, Youri, of Bangor, and Lori Tompkins and her husband, Jessi, of Orrington; son, Dana Spencer and his wife, Kari, of North Carolina; brothers, Timothy Murray of Bangor, and Edward Murray and his wife, Marie, of Duluth, Minn.; grandchildren, Brooke, Angelique, Nicholas, Colby, Hannah, Paige, Emily, Ethan, Wynter, Milani, Ashlynn and Braxton; mieces and nephews, Kristen, Irene, Drew, Joshua and Jason; and close cousin and friend, Elaine DiMatteo Ferraro; and other family. Steve was predeceased by his mother, Irene; father, Francis; sister, Denise Murray Dunning; brother, Michael Murray; and stepfather, Warren Young.
At Steven’s request there will no formal funeral services. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later time by his family. Interment will be in the family lot at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Memorial gifts in his honor may be sent care of; Steve’s Canvas and Upholstery Shop, 173 Wiswell Road, Brewer, ME 04412.
