PORTLAND, Maine — An operation against sex trafficking conducted by several law enforcement agencies resulted in four arrests over the weekend, according to police.
On Friday, Portland, South Portland, Westbrook and Scarborough police, along with the Cumberland County sheriff’s and district attorney’s offices and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted a collaborative operation to target human trafficking, according to Portland police Lt. James Sweatt.
The purpose of the operation was to target people involved in human trafficking and individuals who further the crime by soliciting prostitutes.
As a result of the operation, Sweatt said the following men were arrested: James Begin, 35, of Lewiston; Lloyd Sewall, 49, of Westbrook; Chandler Marsh, 24, of Massachusetts; and Bao Loc, 20, of South Portland.
Begin was arrested by Portland police and charged with engaging a prostitute, while Sewall and Marsh were arrested by Westbrook police, Sweatt said. Sewall was charged with engaging a prostitute and Marsh eluding a police officer and reckless conduct.
Loc was also arrested by Westbrook officers, according to Sweatt, and charged with engaging a prostitute.
