EXETER, Maine — A local man was expected to appear before a judge Monday after he was arrested early Sunday for allegedly threatening another man with a knife, police said.
Edward Soucie, 49, was charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony, according to Maine State Police Trooper Adam Gould. Soucie was expected to make his first appearance on the charge Monday afternoon.
The sequence of events began late Saturday night when a woman claimed a friend of her brother’s had attempted to slit his throat, according to Gould.
The victim claimed Soucie asked him to kill him, the trooper said. When the victim refused, Soucie apparently came at the other man with a knife, he added.
Trooper Barry Meserve arrived shortly after midnight and took Soucy into custody without incident, said Gould.
“He was in handcuffs by the time I arrived,” Gould said. “He didn’t want to fight or anything.”
According to Gould, Soucie and the victim were extremely intoxicated. The victim was not injured.
Soucie was taken to Penobscot County Jail following his arrest.
