AUGUSTA, Maine — A Kennebec County grand jury indicted Leroy Smith III of Gardiner for his father’s murder Friday.

Smith, who claimed he is God and admitted to killing his father in an exclusive interview with CBS 13’s Jon Chrisos, faces a charge of intentional or knowing or depraved indifference murder.

Assistant Attorney General Bill Stokes said Smith would be arraigned on the murder charge, possibly this week. Smith is accused of stabbing and dismembering his father at the home they shared in Gardiner. Smith, who continues to be held behind bars without bail, has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
