CORINTH — The Corinth Historical Society will host “Corinth Threads in History Spinning Workshop 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Corinth Historical Society Museum, 306 Main St. The workshop is open to all skill levels. Wheels and fiber will be provided, but attendees may bring their own fiber and-or wheel.
Jan Bryan of the historical society said, “For beginners, plenty of time will be given to establish the essential coordination skills and basic techniques every spinner must master. Fiber preparation, tools of the trade, terminology, drafting and plying techniques will be covered. Overviews of wheel mechanics, maintenance and spinning history will be scattered throughout the class.”
Workshop instructor will be Patty Blomgren of Dummerston, Vermont, who has been a spinner and weaver for 30 years and a fiber arts teacher for 18 years. She worked as a master spinner at Green Mountain Spinnery in Putney, Vermont, and is experienced in shearing and skirting fleeces, wool grading, and natural and chemical dyeing. She holds a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies and fine arts from Mount Holyoke College.
The workshop fee is $45. Class size is limited to eight to 10 participants. To register, send your name, mailing address, current phone number and-or e-mail address. Indicate whether you’ll bring your own wheel or use one of Blomgren’s. Experienced spinners should not current skill and techniques they’d most like to see covered.
