BELFAST, Maine — Police arrested two out-of-town men on Sunday night, alleging that the duo came to a Belfast home to hassle and attack one of the men’s former girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
Mitchell Dicenzo, 25, of Bath and Jason Durgin, 27, of Baileyville went to the door of a Back Belmont Road home and spoke with the occupant on the front steps, according to Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden.
“The two men taunted him and tried to entice him to fight,” the chief said. “He refused. At one point he told the men they needed to leave. He went into the house. The two men forced their way inside the house and assaulted him.”
The men allegedly hit and kicked the victim, who fell to the floor, McFadden said, adding that the assailants left only when they learned the girlfriend was calling police.
Police issued a statewide ‘Be on the lookout’ alert for Dicenzo and Durgin, who were spotted and stopped by a Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
“They asked the deputy if they were being arrested because they had kicked the door in in Belfast,” McFadden said, adding that he didn’t know which of the two men was the ex-boyfriend.
Both men were charged with burglary and assault in connection with the incident. They were taken to the Waldo County Jail to be booked.
