BREWER, Maine — Two women were sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a three-car collision that tied up rush-hour traffic on Route 9, police said.
The chain of events started around 3:30 p.m., when Evan Nadeau, 21, of Brewer was rear-ended by Rebecca Trimm, 42, of Eddington, Brewer police Cpl. Paul Gauvin said.
Both vehicles were heading eastbound toward Eddington and Nadeau was attempting to turn left onto West Road, according to Gauvin.
The impact sent Nadeau’s vehicle into oncoming traffic and it was hit head-on by a westbound vehicle driven by Bonnie Morton, 49, of Exeter, Gauvin said.
All three drivers were wearing their seat belts, which Gauvin said likely prevented more serious injuries.
Trimm and Morton’s injuries weren’t considered life-threatening and they were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, while Nadeau did not require a hospital trip, Gauvin said.
All three vehicles were demolished in the accident, which had Route 9 traffic down to one lane for about a half-hour, Gauvin said.
Brewer fire and rescue and Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies also responded.
