BANGOR, Maine — The 22nd Summer Recital Series sponsored by St. John’s Organ Society will begin Thursday, July 24, with a performance by German organist Rudolf Innig at St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St.
Innig will perform the music of J.S. Bach, Horatio Parker, Felix Mendelssohn, and Josef Rheinberger at 7:30 p.m.
“A highly-acclaimed recitalist and recording artist, Innig studied organ, piano, church music, music education and musicology in Germany and France and won prizes in several organ competitions,” Kevin Birch, who organizes the concert series,” said Wednesday in an email. “Concerts, recitals, and radio recordings have taken him to almost all the European countries and to North America, Russia, Japan and Korea.”
Innig’s concert will be the first of six through Aug. 28 on Maine’s largest 19th century tracker-action pipe organ — E. & G. G. Hook’s Opus 288, which was built in 1860 in Boston.
Four of the concerts will feature two musicians, including the last one when Birch will perform the music of Nicolaus Bruhns, Heinrich Biber and J.S. Bach with Bangor violinist Anatole Wieck.
The other concerts be held at 7:30 p.m. on the following dates and feature the following performers and music:
— July 31, Naomi Shiga and Jonathan Wohlers of Tacoma, Washington, performing music by Adolph Friedrich Hesse, Johannes Brahms and Jean Sibelius.
— Aug. 7, Robert and Nancy Ludwig of Bangor, performing music by Dietrich Buxtehude, Marcel Dupre and George Bohm.
— Aug. 14, Reiko Okamoto of Yokosuka, Japan, performing music by Felix Mendelssohn, Hina Sakamoto and J.S. Bach.
— Aug. 21, Jacques Boucher with saxophonist Sophie Poulin de Courval of Montreal, Canada.
