CLINTON, Maine — A local man with a lengthy criminal record, who had been on the loose since Monday, was captured by police Wednesday.
According to Clinton police Chief Craig Johnson, an officer went to the residence of James Simonson, 54, Monday with intent to arrest and charge him with cultivating marijuana.
Simonson fled his residence, according to Johnson, and eluded police until Wednesday.
“We worked through the investigation, and we were led back to the house, knowing he has a history of running,” Johnson said.
Knowing Simonson might resist arrest, Clinton police called the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, state police and Winslow police for assistance, according to Johnson.
Simonson was located in the attic, according to Johnson. And despite making a phone call indicating he was not going to come out, Simonson eventually was taken into custody without incident, the chief said.
Clinton police charged Simonson with cultivating marijuana. A probation hold was placed on him, and he was taken to Kennebec County Jail. Johnson said additional charges are expected to be filed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
