SEARSMONT, Maine — A 25-year-old man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight helicopter Thursday after being injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in Searsmont.
Nicholas Light of Searsmont called 911 at about 9:30 a.m. to report that he was hurt, according to a press release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. He told the dispatcher he was off the road, didn’t know where he was or where his motorcycle ended up, and that he was bleeding “significantly.”
Dispatchers were able to get an approximate location from call information, and sheriff’s office deputies and emergency responders from the Searsmont Fire Department, Searsmont ambulance and Belfast ambulance all converged on Lincolnville Road. Deputy John McEwen was the first person to find Light, and he used a tourniquet to stop the bleeding on Light’s leg.
McEwen told other responders where to go, and they asked for a LifeFlight helicopter to come to the scene. Officers found Light’s motorcycle in the woods near the injured man.
Police said that the motorcycle was significantly damaged, and Lt. Jason Trundy said that Light was wearing a helmet.
The crash is still under investigation.
