ROCKPORT, Maine — The interim CEO for Pen Bay Healthcare will remain in that post for another year.
Pen Bay confirmed Monday its board of trustees voted in July to extend Mark Biscone’s status as interim president and CEO for up to 12 months. Biscone has been serving in that capacity since March 14.
In March, Pen Bay stated in a news release Biscone would be a transitional CEO upon the departure of Wade Johnson, who resigned after two years on the job.
According to a statement from David Williams of Camden, who is serving as the acting chair of the Pen Bay board, the action is being taken as the board explores “strategic initiatives with Waldo County Healthcare. Additional information will become available as these initiatives are put in place.”
Biscone also is head of the Waldo County Healthcare system. He has been executive director of Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast for more than 30 years.
Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and Waldo County Healthcare already share multiple doctors, including in oncology, urology, nephrology and vascular surgery. Cuts made at Pen Bay earlier this year, particularly in oncology, prompted concern from several patients.
