ORRINGTON, Maine — A two-vehicle accident that sent a Brewer woman to the hospital Saturday remains under investigation, police said on Tuesday.
Chief Deputy Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said Robin Rie, 59, whose vehicle was struck from behind on Route 15, known locally as River Road, remains in critical condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Rie had slowed to make a left turn into a vegetable stand in the area of 420 River Road when a Dodge sedan driven by Marc Sparks, 29, of Bucksport, failed to slow down and struck the rear of Rie’s SUV, Morton explained.
The impact forced Rie’s vehicle off the road and into a residence before it came to rest, Morton said. Both vehicles were heading south.
Sparks’ vehicle stopped for a moment before he left the scene, Morton said. He and his vehicle were later located in Bucksport.
Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies, state police and the Maine Warden Service collaborated in locating Sparks and his vehicle.
Rie and Sparks were the lone occupants in each vehicle, Morton said. Sparks was not injured, and the cause and details of the accident remain under investigation.
