AREA — The Sierra Club Maine Chapter honored business leaders, elected representatives, A reporter and activists at its 2014 annual award dinner on Sept. 5.
State Rep. Mick Devin of Newcastle received the Public Service for the Environment Award for his leadership to address ocean acidification and other marine and climate protection issues.
Amy Browne of WERU Community Radio in Orland received the Excellence in Reporting Award for her coverage of the controversial dredging proposal for Penobscot Bay.
Ilze Petersons of the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine in Bangor received the Grassroots Work Award for her dedicated work to educate the public about the intersection of peace, justice and environmental issues.
Phil Coupe of Revision Energy in Portland received a Business for the Environment Award for the firm’s advocacy and leadership for solar energy in Maine.
Lisa Burton and Chris Vincenty of Reel Pizza Cinerama of Bar Harbor received a Business for the Environment Award for their hosting a successful environmental film series.
Kim Ervin Tucker of Isleboro received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for her legal and organizing work to protect Penobscot Bay from the threat of dredging.
