CORINTH, Maine — Windy and dry conditions were main factors in a brush fire that burned about half to three-quarters of an acre off the Tate Road on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Ben Goodwin, a ranger with the Maine Forest Service, said the fire was reported around 2 p.m. when a Maine Forest Service helicopter in the area spotted the flames.
Goodwin said the fire originated “from a permit burn from a couple of days ago,” but the original fire had not been completely extinguished, and the windy and dry conditions picked it back up again, Goodwin explained.
The burn had been behind the property owner’s residence, Goodwin said.
Goodwin added the fire could have spread to other properties in the area had the forest service helicopter not spotted it quickly. The chopper was able to land and forest rangers slowed the fire down before Corinth and Kenduskeag firefighters could arrive.
Goodwin said the man who owns the property, whose name was not revealed, received a summons.
Corinth and Kenduskeag firefighters were finishing work at the scene late Tuesday afternoon, Goodwin said.
