The University of Maine’s softball team will host three softball games at Kessock Field in Orono on Sunday also involving in-state teams Husson University and the University of Southern Maine.
Maine will play Husson at 10 a.m.; Husson will take on USM at noon and Maine will face USM at 2 p.m.
All three teams are coached by former University of Maine players: Maine’s Lynn (Hearty) Coutts, Husson’s Kristie Hawkins and USM’s Sarah (Bennis) Jamo.
The Black Bears will complete their fall schedule with three games at the University of Connecticut on Oct. 4-5.
Field Hockey
Bowdoin 4, UMF 0
At Brunswick, the Bowdoin College Polar Bears surged to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to the victory over the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers Thursday.
Adrienne O’Donnell scored unassisted just 2:52 into the game and came back to assist on Emily Simonton’s goal 10 minutes later. Simonton added her second goal less than a minute later and Liz Znamierowski finished the scoring with a goal from an O’Donnell assist with 7:40 left in the game.
Hannah Gartner didn’t have to make a save for Bowdoin (5-0), which outshot UMF 30-0. Alyssa Arsenault made seven first-half saves for UMF (3-3) and Patricia Smith made eight in the second half.
St. Joseph’s 1, USM 0
At Standish, Bailey Cutler scored off a pass from Theresa Hendrix 10:27 into the game to give the Monks the winning edge.
USM had two good scoring chances late in the game, but Peyton Dostie’s shot off a breakaway went wide and St. Joe’s defender Emily Jordan made a save 20 seconds later on a Rebecca Pratt shot after a scramble in front of the goal.
Goalkeeper Amanda Kashbohm made three saves for USM (4-4) while goalkeepers Emma Astbury and Hillary Nash each played a half for St. Joe’s (5-1), but didn’t have to make a save.
