Men’s Soccer

LYNDONVILLE, Vermont — Phil Frost and Saker Ghanayem each notched a goal and an assist on Saturday to lead Husson University to a 3-1 North Atlantic Conference men’s soccer win over Lyndon State.

Frost scored two goals Sunday in Husson’s 3-2 win over Johnson State.

Ghanayem’s goal early in the first half, off assists from Matthew Milliard and Frost, was the eventual game-winner. Charles Bujambi netted the other goal for Husson University of Bangor, while Josh Bean added assists. Brian Potter made five saves.

Eric Nelson scored the goal for Lyndon State (4-4). Jason Marks made five saves.

On Sunday in Johnson, Vermont, Frost’s two goals included the game-winner in the 62nd minute off assists from Stephen Berenyi and Nic Pare.

Josh Bellomo added a goal for Husson (6-3, 3-0 NAC), Berenyi notched two assists and Brian Potter made four saves.

Josh King and Dominic Caforia each scored a goal for Johnson State (2-6-1, 0-3) and Alex Pakatar made 12 saves.

MMA notches 2 wins

At Johnson, Vermont on Saturday, Kyle Haslam scored his second goal of the game, unassisted, 3:59 into overtime to lift the Mariners to a 3-2 North Atlantic Conference victory.

Haslam scored his first goal off a Matt Leblanc assist for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine, while Jonathan Reeks added an unassisted goal. Marshall Spear made one save in the win.

For Johnson State (2-5-1, 0-2 NAC), Sean Springer notched a goal and an assist and Cory Chase scored once. Alex Pakatar made nine saves.

On Sunday at Lyndon Center, Vermont, Tom Samson recorded two goals and Jonathan Reeks added a goal and an assist to power Maine Maritime to a 5-0 victory over Lyndon State.

Gabriel Warren, Henry Hersey and Bryan Soucy each added a goal for MMA (5-4-1, 2-0-1 NAC) and Marshall Spear made two saves. Jason Marks made four saves for Lyndon State.

UM-Farmington splits

At Poultney, Vermont, Ryan Fairbanks’ unassisted goal with 10:28 to play provided the UMaine-Farmington Beavers with the margin of victory, 4-3 over Green Mountain College

Jordan Luks, Darine Gnidehoue and Austin Dooley scored a goal apiece for the University of Maine-Farmington. Yusuf Yama and Fairbanks contributed assists. Ronie Morales made five saves.

Green Mountain (3-5, 0-1 NAC) received goals from Naar Zhukovskyy, Jordan Manikas and Nate Laymon. Griffin Shelor came up with 10 saves.

At Castleton, Vermont, on Sunday, Castleton scored five second-half goals to help roll by UMF (1-6-1, 1-1 NAC), 6-0.

Dameon Young scored a first-half goal for Castleton and the Beavers gave up four goals in an 18-minute spain.

Ronie Morales had 11 saves for UMF and Matt Wilson had one. Castleton’s Dan Parker had two saves.

Thomas 1, Castleton 1 (2OT)

At Castleton, Vermont, Spencer Dandurand scored with 18:41 remaining in the second half as the Spartans earned a North Atlantic Conference tie against the Terriers on Saturday.

Bryce Kaler assisted on the goal for Castleton State (2-4-2, 1-0-2 NAC). Dan Palker made eight saves.

London Steede-Jackson scored off a Dakota Duplissie assist early in the second half for Thomas College of Waterville (4-2-2, 1-0-2 NAC). Winston Trott had two saves.

Colby 3, Middlebury 0

At Waterville on Saturday, the Mules scored three times in the second half to knock off the Panthers in a NESCAC contest.

An own goal put Colby (5-3, 1-3 NESCAC) on the board, before Ynka Onayemi scored 9:09 apart off assists from Matt Ayers and Evan Dwyer, respectively, to provide some insurance. Peter Quayle made eight saves.

Greg Sydor made two stops for MIddlebury (5-1-1, 2-1-1 NESCAC).

Women’s Soccer

Middlebury 1, Colby 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Hannah Robinson scored at 29:48 of the first half, giving the Panthers the NESCAC win over the Mules.

Emily Eslinger made two saves for Middlebury (4-3, 1-3 NESCAC).

Emily Brook collected 11 saves for Colby (2-4-1, 0-3-1 NESCAC).

Husson wins 2 in Vermont

At Lyndonville, Vermont, on Saturday, Lyndon State took a 1-0 lead, but Husson’s Maddie Page tied it in the 62nd minute and Desiree Hamler notched the game-winner at the 86th minute for the 2-1 final.

Mollie Roy and Katie Cyr each notched an assist for Husson.

Jess Poulin made two saves for Husson, which outshot Lyndon State 30-4.

On Sunday, in Johnson, Vermont, Leah Hibbard recorded two goals and two assists to lead Husson by Johnson State 5-0.

Rachel Moroney, Lexi Crawford and Katey Curtis each added a goal for Husson (4-4, 2-1 NAC) while Mollie Roy and Desir’ee Halmer each added an assist. Jess Poulin and Anna Wolterbeek combined on three saves for Husson and Amber McCullock made nine for Johnson State.

MMA splits weekend

At Johnson, Vermont, on Saturday, Shannon Grier’s goal 30 minutes into the first half lifted Johnson State by Maine Maritime Academy of Castine 1-0.

Amber McCullock made 12 saves for Johnson (7-2, 2-0 NAC) and Kelsie Hilton made six for MMA (2-6, 0-2).

At Lyndon Center, Vermont, on Sunday, Victoria Cooper scored two first-half goals to lift MMA (3-6, 1-2) by Lyndon State (4-6, 0-3) 2-1.

Cooper’s first goal in the 10th minute was unassisted and Sarah Brochu crossed the ball to Cooper in the 27th minute for her second goal.

MMA’s Kelsie Hilton made four saves.

Sarah Cornell scored off a direct kick for Lyndon State in the 51st minute and Julianna Anderson finished with 10 saves.

UMFK wins two

At Rochester, New York, on Saturday, Yosselin Berrueco scored two goals to lead UMaine-Fort Kent by Roberts Wesleyan, 3-0.

Kayla Richards added a second-half goal for UMFK.

On Sunday, UMFK improved to 9-1 with a 3-2 overtime win over SUNY of Syracuse.

Katherine Ferland scored the game-winner off an Ariane Pelletier assist three minutes into overtime.

Ferland and Brianna Mills each recorded a goal and an assist for UMFK. Berrueco chipped in with a goal.

Heather Carl scored both goals for SUNY, now 7-1.

UMF splits pair

At Poultney, Vermont, UMaine-Farmington scored four first-half goals to notch the 6-0 win over Green Mountain.

Sarah Pokorny scored two goals for UMF while Avalon Amador, Keli McLellan, Kati Kinney, and Sarah Quimby each added a goal. Bridget Humphrey chipped in with two assists while Alexandra Crocker, Kiana Thompson and Clark each added one.

UMF had a 27-6 shots advantage.

On Sunday, in Castleton, Vermont, Sarah Carlson’s goal in the 14th minute gave Castleton a 1-0 win over UMF (2-5).

Sam Hatch made 10 saves for UMF and Jessica Binkowski had three for Castleton.

UMM 4, SMCC 0

At Machias on Saturday, Brooklynne Lewis scored three goals to lift UMaine-Machias by Southern Maine CC.

Samantha Shaneybrook notched two assists for UMM.

Maine 0, Binghamton 0

At Vestal, New York, Maine goalkeeper Claudia Dube-Trempe stopped all four shots she faced to help the Bears record the double-overtime tie.

Gaby Gold was in goal for Binghamton in the first half and Katie Hatziyianis played the final 65 minutes, making two saves.

Maine is now 2-6-2 and Binghamton is 4-6-1.

Field Hockey

Husson 7, Thomas 0

At Waterville on Saturday, Kerianne Downing scored twice in the game’s first 1:25 to power the Eagles to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Terriers.

Libby Kain tallied two goals and Melissa Souza provided a goal and two assists for Husson University of Bangor (3-5, 1-0 NAC). Sarah Eatman and Kayla Royer each added a goal while Abby Greenleaf made eight saves.

Abbie Charrier and Brittany Fox combined to make four saves for Thomas (3-7, 0-1 NAC).

UMF posts 2 wins

At Castleton, Vermont, Meghan Hughes scored on a deflection at the 52:22 mark as the Beavers rallied from a two-goal deficit with three goals in a span of 9:13 to a 5-4 North Atlantic Conference win over the Spartans on Saturday.

Emmah Spahr (assist) and Chelsea Morley had each scored amidst the rally for the University of Maine-Farmington. Carly Raymond and Rebecca Young posted a goal each, while Mara Balboni and Sarita Crandall chipped in with assists. Patricia Smith made 10 saves.

Anna-Michelle Fabia scored twice for Castleton State (0-6, 0-1 NAC), while Emily Hudson and Kristy Pinkham added a goal each. Jess Galatioto made seven saves.

On Sunday in Nashua, New Hampshire, Chelsea Morley scored just two minutes into the contest as UMF rolled by Rivier 5-0.

Raymond, Young, Balboni and Jenessa Talrico each added a goal for UMF (5-3). Smith had a first-half save and Alyssa Arsenault had two in the second half. Makenzie Flagg made 11 saves for Rivier.

Middlebury 3, Colby 1

At Waterville on Saturday, Bridget Instrum and Jillian Green scored during the first nine minutes to power fifth-ranked Middlebury to a NESCAC win over Colby.

Instrum added a second-half goal and Emily Knapp made seven saves for the Panthers (5-1, 3-1 NESCAC).

Caroline Ferguson scored unassisted for the Mules (4-4, 0-4 NESCAC). Sarah Evans made nine stops.

Women’s Ice Hockey

Maine 2, UNH 1

At Orono on Saturday, Kelsey MacSorely’s goal at 14:06 in the second period gave Maine the winning edge in a mutual opener.

Haley Breedlove scored at 3:39 in the first for UNH, but Maine equalized at 11:27 when Hailey Browne fired the puck past Vilma Vaattovaara from just outside the face-off circle. Brooke Stacey assisted on the goal.

Maine outshot UNH with UNH goalie Vilma Vaattovaara making 35 saves and Maine’s Meghann Treacy making 25.
